Capturing a great photograph is exciting, rewarding, and elusive. However, without context it is just one image. I have spent many hours seeking the perfect image or developing a body of work. Thanks to some workshop opportunities and examples set by accomplished storytellers, I have become more interested in using photography as a tool to create narratives; a means to tell a story. This approach requires developing a story, planning a narrative around the subject(s), and being flexible when new ideas, driven by the subject or circumstances, emerge. The process often leads to surprising results, despite the planning. It also satisfies my sense of curiosity; forcing me to look more deeply, work a bit harder, ask questions, and learn something about the subject and myself.
